The second season of The Promised Neverland received some major backlash from fans for its deviation from the original manga. While the series had made changes in the first season as well, the changes made in the second season were outrageous. The manga ended in June 2020. However, the mangaka, Kaiu Shirai, was not satisfied with the ending. Hence, he insisted that some changes be made in the anime. The series follows the story of the children who had escaped from Grace Field House. They enter the world of demons and fight to survive.
The Promised Neverland Season 2: An Honest Review
There have been instances of many anime series straying away from the manga and moving ahead in their own plot. It rarely turns out well for some anime to tweak the original story. For most anime, it is actually pretty deadly. The Promised Neverland seems to have become the newest best bad example of what happens if an anime does not follow the source material. Missing Arcs The second season of The Promised Neverland starts fairly well. It almost looks like it might be just as good as the first season. However, as the story progresses, it feels as if the anime is running on a fast-forward button. Rather than making simple changes, the makers jumped through arcs. In an attempt to fit everything, the anime skipped a total of four arcs and left out some major characters like Yuugo and Lucas who were very important for the character development of Ray and Emma. Fans are disappointed at the complete eradication of these arcs as they had some major elements that qualified The Promised Neverland is a dark fantasy anime. Most of these information-worth episodes were cramped into a few lines and random remarks. It gets worse for those who haven’t even read the manga as a lot of things remain unexplained for them. A Rushed Storyline The first two episodes gave out a little hope for the season ahead, but until the later part of the anime, things suddenly happen to appear out of nowhere. There is barely any character development first, as it appears that the children are always helped out through everything. Instead of the missing arc, which features the development, the creators decide to give the story a time skip (because why not?!). The anime made a fast run into the reappearance of Norman. This was a scene that was highly anticipated and supposed to have a lot of impacts. However, it had no specific impact on the viewers because of the poor development of events. The episodes were carried out at a pace that sucked the excitement out of a good climax, making it a poor excuse for a thriller anime. Things like Norman’s comeback could be halted on to the later part of the story like it did in the manga. But, the series rushed it into the middle of the plot making these major events look like it was no big deal. The story makes its way through ten episodes with no tension and no proper build-up. However, the story does have too many unrealistic optimistic vibes for an anime set around young children surrounded by demons who want to eat them. Overall, the second season was a disastrous phenomenon. The creators neither completely followed the manga nor followed a path of their own. It was a giant mass of terrible plot holes that has a mix of both and yet, the essence of none.
The Promised Neverland Season 3 Release Date
The Promised Neverland Season 3 should be released in late 2022 if the concerned companies and production houses consider one. So far, there has been no announcement regarding the release of another season of The Promised Neverland. The first season of The Promised Neverland was released in January 2019 and ended in March 2019. The second season was supposed to be released in October 2020 but was delayed due to the pandemic. If CloverWorks decides to make another season of the anime, it could be announced shortly. However, with the massive negative fan reaction, it seems highly unlikely that another season would be made after the catastrophic second season. The execution and the writing of the last season were so poor that neither Toshiya Ono nor Kaiu Shirai wants to take the credits for episode 10. The anime was equally bad for those who had read the manga and those who had not. The anime needs a reboot rather than another season. The second season needs to have a re-make before the makers proceed with the series.
